Garnett City Manager, Chris Weiner, has resigned. He submitted a Letter of Resignation to the City Commission last week. He has accepted the City Manager’s position in Monett, Missouri, located midway between Joplin and Springfield. According to the Anderson County Review, the Monett newspaper says Weiner would begin his duties in August.

The move comes less than a year after City Commissioners met Weiner’s request for a contract term longer than the one year agreement he had operated on since taking the job and, granted him a salary increase from $90,000 to $95,000, along with back pay for a previous city employee raise in which he was mistakenly not included.

Weiner said in his resignation letter, he loved Garnett and had warm feelings for his experience here. He appreciates everything the City has done for him and the hardest part will be leaving the people his family has grown close to . Mayor Jody Cole says the city will begin the hiring process and she has been in touch with the League of Kansas Municipalities and its recruiting services. It puts the City in motion for a hunt for a new manager, one they went through just four years ago.
