A Kansas City-area man is scheduled to be arraigned in Anderson County district Court Monday on charges that he used a knife to ambush a Williamsburg man in the bedroom of a Garnett woman they had a mutual love interest with.

Maxwell Williams was found competent to stand trial after a Court-Ordered Evaluation in April. He waived his right to a Preliminary Trial earlier this Spring. Prosecutors sayin July of last year, Williams hid in a closet in the bedroom of Mary Jennings’ Garnett home, while Jennings, as bait for the ambush, lured William Hopkins into the bedroom .

The investigator’s report recounts that Williams, Jennings and Hopkins were involved in a lovers triangle involving a video, shot by Jennings and Hopkins–one which they apparently used to antagonize Williams, with whom Jennings had a previous relationship and, at the time, had an active Court Order specifying no contact. The report said Jennings and Hopkins sent Williams the video the day before the attack. Jennings was charged in the incident as well, but received immunity from prosecution in exchange for her agreement to testify against Williams.
