Nearly one thousand kids have died in hot cars in the last 30 years. People forget and leave the kids in the car, or get distracted and sometimes the kids get in the car themselves and can’t get out. With temperatures heating up and three deaths already this year, Cars and Kids Director Amber Rollins, says there is a way to stop it from happening. Technology exists that could be installed in all cars to make drivers aware if their child is in the car. She says the Hot Cars Act would require this technology:

The inside of a vehicle heats up very quickly. Even with windows cracked, the temperature inside can reach 125 degrees in just a few minutes. Eighty percent of the heating happens within the first 10 minutes and kids have died of heatstroke with outside temperatures as low as 60 degrees.
