Are you headed to the lake this weekend to get away from it all” It’s going to be hot, plan on getting in the nice cool, refreshing water. Keep your eyes open and think twice at these lakes. The state of Kansas has issued a Blue Green Algae Warning for Marion Reservoir, Webster Reservoir, Jerry Ivey Lake and Keith Sebelius Reservoir
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment recommends the lake water is not safe to drink for pets, livestock or human. They also say to avoid contact with the water and if you are in contact, cash with clean water as soon as possible.
If you see scum, a paint-like surface on the water, small floating blue-green clumps or filaments, or the water is an opaque green, avoid contact and keep pets away. These are indications that a harmful bloom may be present.
