The Ottawa City commission is spending considerable time reviewing budget requests for the new fiscal year. One of the more controversial requests is from Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, which is asking for a big increase from last year; from the current level of about $57,000 to over $77,000. Commissioner Eric Crowley says he has problems with that kind of increase:
Other Commissioners say they would be more comfortable with about a $5,000 increase. Mayor Sara Caylor says she wants to the keep the city contribution to under $60,000.
