A recent poll found that voters gave their local public school boards and schools high marks during the COVID Pandemic. It also found strong support in expanding broadband internet service to students and to make up for learning loss. The Bi-Partisan Poll was commissioned by the National School Boards Action Center and interviewed thousands of potential voters.
Learning loss among students, due to the COVID Pandemic is a key priority with 88% saying it is a problem, including 65% who say it is a “very big” problem. The largest obstacle for public school districts, named by 66% of voters as challenging, was having quality broadband and internet access at home to attend school online. When asked their opinion of the Online School Experience; however, 56% of parents say their children do not like attending school online and struggle with not being in a classroom setting.
The School Board Center says the data suggests the public in-person learning and recognizes broadband and technology is also important, particularly to better address learning loss and provide students real-world skills
