Many cities in the area are receiving a surprise bill from the Grand River Dam Authority, relating the arctic cold snap that hit the area last winter. Osawatomie, Garnett and Baldwin were all assessed an extra $260,000. For Ottawa, it was a little over one million dollars. Finance Director, Melanie Landis, says Ottawa Customers can expect the surcharge to continue for quite a while:
The City of Osawatomie extended their surcharge to customers 20 more months, also. Garnett and Baldwin are still in discussion on the subject.
