Remember the movie “Halloween”? Who doesn’t, right? BUT, did you know that the original Halloween had its premier in Kansas City? Forty three years ago, yesterday, October 25th, 1978 at the Kansas City’s AMC Empire Theatre. Why KC? Well, producers didn’t think the film would be thought of very kindly, as horror films weren’t all that popular back then; it was made for smaller markets and drive-ins for younger audiences. Star, Jamie Lee Curtis, made her acting debut in the film. She says they had no idea what was about to happen:
It had a low budget of only $325,000, but after Halloween grossed over $1.2 million the first weekend, distribution rights were picked up quickly for Philadelphia and New York City; then the film debuted Nationwide in 198 theaters the next week.
The 13th Installment of the Michael Meyers saga, “Halloween Kills”, picks up right where the 2018 version left off, on the same bloody night, with Jamie Lee Curtis back for more. By the way, it grossed over $50 million its first weekend.
