Garnett City Commissioners are putting out the call for people interested in helping steer leadership, development and activities in the City, by joining one of the city’s advisory boards. Community Development Director, Susan Wettstien says they are looking for people with knowledge and passion, who want to serve and are encouraging applicants for the next term of any advisory board or volunteer position, where there’s presently a vacancy or not. Garnett’s various citizen advisory boards help determine initiatives and policies in a variety of aspects of city service, from art committees to tourism to the public library to the airport, among others.
The boards vary in the number of members and some allow non-city residents on their membership rolls. Some of those advisory boards include the Airport board, Anderson County Economic Development, Community Foundation, Housing Authority, Library Advisor Board, Parks and Rec, Planning Commission, Tourism Committee and the Walker Art Committee.
