A pursuit that started on I-35 Friday ended with an arrest in Ottawa. A Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper saw a white Nissan sitting on the southbound shoulder of I-35 at milepost 187 with its hazard lights on. The trooper attempted to check the welfare of the driver, but the vehicle drove away and exited the highway. The vehicle reentered the highway, made lane changes across both lanes, entered the median and crossed both northbound lanes and stopped on the northbound shoulder. The trooper attempted to complete a traffic stop of the vehicle for the erratic driving and other violations. The Trooper turned through the median with his emergency lights and stopped behind the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle fled as the trooper exited his vehicle and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, Franklin County Deputies utilized stop sticks on the vehicle and the pursuit continued. The chase briefly entered the City of Ottawa, went north on Davis Road, where the driver stopped in a driveway. The driver, 49 year old Michelle Hughes, was placed into custody and charged with Fleeing and Eluding in the Commission of a felony and driving under the influence.
