Ottawa’s new industrial park is still waiting for its first tenant; but interest in the area South of Ottawa is at an all time high. In an update about the park, Franklin County Development Director Paul Bean says right now there are four active leads and they are waiting to hear back from the lead that made a physical visit to Ottawa earlier in the fall. He says the State of Kansas has recruiters for industry’s.
Bean says this year he has had 39 requests from Industries looking for a location, up from only 17 the year before. He believes it to be a reflection of COVID in 2020 and an increase in marketing efforts in this past year. Last year there was an uptick in inquiries toward the very end of the year. Bean is hoping for the same this year.
