Earlier this year, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department announced they had cracked a 40 year old cold case and know the family of Tawnya Knight is hoping hers is next. Fifteen year old Tawnya, from Spring Hill, was killed after leaving a friends house December 7th, 1996 and her remains were found in a field six months later. Her mother, Lori Aubry Knight, is a 1977 graduate of Ottawa High School and says the cold case announcement was inspiring:
The Johnson County Sheriff’s office has a dedicated group investigating cold cases. They say a private investigator hired by Knight has uncovered some information not discovered in the original investigation. After 25 years, Lori Knight is ready to see Tawnya’s killer, or killers, brought to justice.
