The owners of a former cattle ranch who wanted to turn it into an event center have lost their battle for a special use permit that would allow the activities. The center is just west of 33 Highway on Pawnee Road. Neighbors around the property had filed a protest petition. Franklin County Administrator, Derek Brown, says asking the owners to spend money on installing several features in exchange for a permit would be futile:
After an hour long discussion of the matter, the County Commission voted 3 to 2 to approve the permit; however, the permit was in effect denied because at least four of the Commissioners would’ve had to vote yes.
