The City of Garnett and the Garnett Police Department are asking for some unusual help. Recently someone, or more than someone, was shooting a firearm at a target. Not unusual, but the target was on the the door of the city’s pump house. The pump house supplies the City of Garnett’s water treatment plant and in turn supplies residents and businesses with water. It also helps bring water to five rural water districts and the City of Greeley. Law enforcement and City officials stress that shooting at the pump house is a crime and Garnett police and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident. In a picture posted on the City’s Facebook page, they display the target and you can see dozens of places on the door where bullets struck.
The City of Garnett says customers pay for the equipment that provides water through utility rates and taxes and if damaged, threatens service of water to the area. If you see anyone shooting at a city facility, such as the pump house, you are asked to report it to the police.
