The Franklin County Spelling Bee was held yesterday at Wellsville Elementary School and, as usual, it was a tight race. The County’s top spellers from all the County schools gathered for the annual tradition that gives bragging rights to one student as the top speller for the next year. As they entered the final rounds, three students stood out. Tannis Normile from Ottawa Middle School, Ava Luman from Wellsville elementary and Liley Elsasser from Central Heights Middle School. In the end, it was Tannis Normile that came out on top, spelling correctly the winning word… “Avatar”
Normile, who won the Bee in 2020 as a 5th grader, takes home the trophy again and earns the right to attend the Sunflower State Spelling Bee to be held March 26th at Newman University in Wichita.
