Kansas Day is tomorrow and for Miami County, particularly Osawatomie, John Brown, the famous abolitionist, grew to be a legend i the Civil War Era. After the sacking of Lawrence by pro-slavery forces, Brown and seven of his followers, set for revenge, brutally murdered five pro-slavery men on Pottawatomie Creek. His plan to capture Harper’s Ferry in Virginia and ignite a slave insurrection, failed. He was captured, tried and executed by hanging on December 2nd, 1859.
The Justice brothers were “gearheads” in Paola long before they founded the Automotive Chemicals Company. During the Depression years, the boys learned how to fix most anything. They moved to the west coast and were hired by the famous Kurt Craft Shop in L.A. to build midget racecars. After moving to Florida, they started their own car care products business and founded the Justice Brothers, which remains family owned and sponsors may race teams across the Nations.
