Miami County Emergency Management Coordinator, Mark Whalen, reported to County Commissioners last week that Miami County COVID cases had dropped, based on numbers from the week before. The County recorded 499 new cases last week. Whalen says he believes the case count is actually higher, as the positivity rates the past two weeks was nearly 31%, up from the previous week. Whalen says five new deaths were attributed to COVID, giving Miami County a total of 83 deaths since the pandemic began.

Whalen says he expects the Federal roll out of free N95 masks sometime this week, but as of Friday, they had not been received. The Federal Partners for the mask give away are Vohs Pharmacy, Rockers Pharmacy and Auburn Pharmacy and the Health Partnership. The Emergency Management Department with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office will be offering those Partners some N95 masks to give to people who are requesting them until the N95 masks become available, as the pharmacy’s are getting swamped with phone calls asking about them.
