Former Ottawa Police Chief, Dennis Butler, has retired. Butler has been the Riley County Police Department Director since late 2018. The 37 year police veteran began his career in Alexandra, Virginia and ended it Monday in Riley County. He was hired as Chief in Ottawa in May of 2004 and he served here until leaving in 2018, passing the torch to current Chief, Adam Weingartner. Butler set up numerous programs in Ottawa and was recognized in 2018 as State Level Ally of the Year by the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual ad Domestic Violence. Butler talks about his retirement plans:
Many of his connections in Alexandria have benefitted the Ottawa Community, including the Ottawa Police Foundation and his determination to get the Ottawa Force accredited, one of only 12 in the State, including Riley County.
