A big highway project starts Monday, that will affect motorists on I-35 in Osage and Franklin Counties. The Kansas Department of Transportation says they will start a resurfacing project in these Counties. The 16 mile project area begins at the Rock Creek Bridge and continues northeast to end three miles south of Eisenhower Road at Ottawa, that’s mile marker 163 to 179.

Project activity includes placing a one inch reflective crack interface layer and three inches of asphalt over the existing concrete driving lanes. A waterproofing membrane and two inches of asphalt will be placed on the northbound lanes of the Rock Creek Bridge.

K-Dot says there will be intermittent lane closures during daylight hours until the road work is completed sometime in October. Bettis Asphalt & Construction of Topeka will complete the project at a cost of just over $20 million.
