With Mother Nature spinning around in an altered state of mind the past week, the Spring-like weather is gone and cold arctic air has set up in our area. Cold weather keeps Ottawa Fire Chief Tim Mathias awake at night, knowing that times like this are prime time for house fires. Those fires caused by people just trying to stay warm. He says one of the biggest problems is space heaters:
He adds that new space heaters are equipped with a safety measure so when they tip over, they shut off. He also suggests not using your oven as a source of heat and not to leave any open flames, like candles, burning at night.
