Pluto, the strange little planet-like-thing orbiting out there in space, three point three billion miles from earth, so far away and odd acting, that scientists several years ago stripped its title as a planet. However, today marks a milestone for Pluto, that no one alive today has seen. Today marks Pluto’s first revolution around the sun since 1774. That’s right, it’s been 248 earth years since Pluto completed that trip last. Man, you thought the past couple years have been long here, imagine if you were on Pluto!
Some fun facts about the Dwarf Planet. It was discovered by a Kansas farm boy, Clyde Tombaugh in 1930. Clyde was raised in Burdett, Kansas. Went to KU and became an astronomer after working at Lowell Observatory in Arizona and discovering Pluto. Pluto has five moons and is the largest Dwarf Planet. Pluto is one third water and has two different types of orbits. Enjoy the day and know that Pluto’s first birthday in 248 years is being celebrated around the astronomy community. Hey, we all need a little good news and celebration.
