The Ottawa Library will hold a very special event tonight with the author of the 7th Annual O-Town Read Book “The Sun Does Shine”. The author of the book, Anthony Ray Hinton, was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder in Alabama in 1985. He knew it was a case of mistake identity, but being a black man and with no money, he was sentenced to death and spent 27 years on death row.
Determined to prove his innocence, he became a beacon for others, transforming his own spirit and those of fellow inmates on death row. With the help of Civil Rights Attorney, Bryan Stephenson, he won his release in 2015,
The Ottawa Library will hold a Meet the Author Night, featuring Hinton. It will be held tonight at 6:30 at the Gangwish Building at Ottawa University. The Emcee of the event will be David Tashaus of the Midwest Innocence Project. Come hear the story of a young man convicted of murders he did not commit and spent 28 years on death row fighting for his freedom. The event will also be live-streamed through Zoom.
