An Alabama man on Death Row for 30 years for a crime he did not commit, was the featured speaker in the 2022 O-Town Community Read Program. Anthony Ray Hinton spoke, via Zoom, at Ottawa University. He says he was sentenced to death for two murders which he never committed. Over the years, several attorneys tried to help Hinton and the message one lawyer brought him was no help at all:
Hinton was in prison from 1985 to 2015, when he was finally cleared of all charges and released. He says, to this day, he has never received any apologies from prosecutors or received any compensation for a lost 30 years of life.
