Although the State still doesn’t have an approved new Congressional District Map, the filing deadline for other local and state offices is still set for noon, June 1st ,for those planning to seek elected office in the November 2022 General Election. In Anderson County, Republican Les McGhee’s 1st District County Commission Seat will be up for election. Neither McGhee or Garnett City Commissioner Greg Gwin, whose position will also be voted this coming November, have publicly announced if they plan to seek re-election. Locally, 12th District Senator Caryn Tyson has announced her candidacy for Kansas State Treasurer. Tyson will be able to retain her Senate Seat with two remaining years on her present term should she lose the treasurer’s race. If she wins, 12th District Republicans will appoint a replacement. Mark Samsel of Wellsville hasn’t publicly announced whether he will seek another term as 5th District Representative, nor has Trevor Jacobs, the Representative from the 4th District, which includes the extreme southeast corner of Anderson County.
