If a tornado warning has been issued in your area, do you and your family know where to go in your house, to protect yourself? Many don’t know. Talking about it with the family and having a plan in case of emergency, or even disaster, is very important. Of course the safest place to go is below ground, into a basement; but, what if you don’t have a basement? The next safest place is into an interior room with no windows, on the ground floor. Never take shelter in an upper story room or outside.

The National Weather Service recommends having multiple ways to receive severe weather updates. A weather radio, local tv, a cell phone app, internet sites, friends and family–and, of course, KOFO radio will have the latest up-to-the-minute severe weather information for you.

This morning at 10:00, there will be a State wide tornado drill. Warning sirens will sound in many communities. Schools will take part by taking shelter in their designated spots. The public is encouraged to talk about and practice their emergency plan this week.
