Being an elected official, like a City or County Commissioner, or School Board Member, isn’t for everyone. There is more to the job than just showing up for a meeting. You have to be fluid on a variety of different subjects and be prepared for each meeting. For instance, at this week’s City Commission Study Session, the information packet was 90 pages long. Ottawa City Manager, Richard Nienstedt, says sometimes they’re bigger:
So, thank your Commissioner or School board Members when you see them. You might not agree with them all the time, but they are working for the betterment of all, not necessarily one.
