In the State of the City Address recently, completion of two major street projects, updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan and ringing up record sales tax collections, were just a few of the topics new Paola Mayor, Leigh House, spoke about. She says Paola saw record amounts of sales tax revenue last year, showing that people are choosing to shop local. Also, the city issued 472 building permits last year, with a construction value of nearly $10 million.
A big project completed last year was the Baptiste Drive extension. House says the rehabilitation of the important roadway also included a new water line, new storm sewer, new curb and gutter and new asphalt.
The Mayor says the City is nearly done with its update to the Comprehensive Plan. An open house to present the plan is scheduled for Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Paola Fire Station, and public feedback is important. House also told the audience that engineering work has begun at Lake Miola Dam to repair and stabilize it and the Paola swimming poos is set to have some major upgrades soon.
