The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks is warning light goose hunters to be extra vigilant this hunting season. Avian Influenza, or HPAI has been reported in the State, the first case in Franklin County. The virus is carried by wild water fowl, including ducks, geese and other waterfowl. KOFO’s Jeff Brewer says watch your clothing:

The recent HPAI cases are not an immediate public health concern. No human cases of these Avian Influenza viruses have been detected and it doesn’t present a food safety risk when poultry and eggs are handled and cooked properly.
