Gas prices keep climbing higher and show no sign of stopping. Not every station has the same prices of course; but, saving money at the pump doesn’t mean just knowing where to fill up –it also helps to now when to fill up.

According to Gas Buddy, in general, gas prices tend to be lowest at the beginning of the week –on Monday and Tuesday. As the week goes on, gas prices tend to rise until they reach their most expensive point on the weekend. So, what drives this trend? Gas Buddy says with energy markets closed over the weekend, gas stations will see the price of oil as the week goes on, then pass along cost increases to customers so they won’t lose money. Even if the price goes down on a Friday, they won’t lower prices, because so many people fill their tanks over the weekend. Also, a key government report comes out every Wednesday that can influence the wholesale oil price. The price isn’t the same at every station. Shop around. As of this morning, Ottawa saw prices ranging from $3.74 to $3.82 per gallon.
