We’ve all seen the signs on the highway, the Adopt A Highway sign, where different organizations keep that stretch of road clean. Ever wonder how to sign up for that program? We also know that litter is unsightly and has a negative effect on residents and visitors to Kansas. The Kansas Department of Transportation would like to raise awareness of the negative affects and the positive aspects of a clean community.
Groups can sign up to Adopt A Highway. You sign a two year agreement and, after that, there is cost. K0DOT provides safety training, trash bags and orange vests. The group has clean-ups three times a year, at their convenience and are recognized with a highway sign for their efforts. Adopt A Highway groups are gearing up for the Annual Clean Up Kansas Campaign, which takes place during the month of April. Adopt A Highway groups are encouraged, but not required, to participate in the statewide event. If your group would like to get involved, just call any K-DOT number and ask for the Adopt A Highway coordinator and they will take care of the rest. You can find those numbers on their website, or give us a call at KOFO and we will provide it for you.
