Spring is here and with that comes the risk of severe weather that could damage your roof. Tornadoes, hail, heavy rain and wind can total out your roof. Getting it repaired can be expensive and time consuming and that usually draws unscrupulous contractors to roll into a damaged town looking to make a quick buck. Kansas Law requires roofers to register with the Attorney General’s Office. There are 1,500 roofers registered and in good standing. If your roof is damaged, make sure the contractor you use is properly registered and ask them to provide a copy of the registration to you before doing any work.

Some tips for home repairs in general, if a deal sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Get multiple, written bids. Ask for local references and remember, friends and neighbors are the best source of reference. Finally, make sure your contractor is insured.

Most importantly, document everything and don’t make a final payment or sign a release until you are satisfied with the work.
