An accident in Downtown Ottawa yesterday afternoon, severely damaged a business. Just before 2:00, a van crashed through the window of Cornerstone Bookstore. Ottawa Fire Chief, Tim Mathias, says it’s fortunate no one was seriously hurt:

The crash ruptured a gas line to the building. Gas was shut off until repairs were made. Owner of Cornerstone, Bruce Beatty, says when he arrived on scene, the only thing he could see was the front bumper of the van sticking out the window. He says it’s fortunate the business was closed for the day, as someone in the store may have been injured.

After crashing through the window, the van destroyed a desk area and the counter where the register was sitting, as well as bringing down some of the false ceiling overheard. He says the store will be closed while they wait on insurance and get the clean up started.
