The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has confirmed a small number of tuberculosis cases in Wyandotte County. The KDHE is working to ensure patients are receiving appropriate treatment and prevent additional cases form occurring.
TB is an infectious disease that is caused by a bacterium and is most commonly found in the lungs. It is spread through the air and a person may become infected if they breath in bacteria-laden particulates and the bacteria settles in the lungs and grows.
General symptoms of tuberculosis include feelings of sickness or weakness, fever, night swears coughing, chest pain or coughing up blood. Fortunately, it is treatable. Contact you doctor immediately if you are experiencing any of the symptoms.
