Tomorrow is Park Day. A day set aside every year where history buffs, community leaders and preservationists will aid in the maintenance and restoration of numerous sites. This is a large scale project, part of the American Battlefield Trust’s annual hands-on preservation event. One area, Battle Field Park, is honored to be a participant in the “big day”. Black Jack Battlefield, in Baldwin City, will be participating for the 15th year and they need volunteers to spruce up the park. Volunteers are needed to upgrade nature trails, clear brush, remove invasive plants, pick up litter and debris from winter storms, to get the park ready for this year’s tourism season. There will be work for both adults and children. Volunteers should have work gloves and wear sturdy clothing and footwear.

The American Battlefield Trust is a National nonprofit land preservation organization, devoted to the protection of America’s hallowed battlegrounds. It saves the battlefields of the Civil War, Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. It educates the public about their importance in forging the Nation we are today. If you would like to volunteer tomorrow, meet at Black Jack Battlefield and Nature Park at 9:00 tomorrow morning.
