Kansas State Treasurer, Lynn Rogers, was in Ottawa last week. He was at Cosentino’s Price Chopper to hold an “Unclaimed Property Search” event and the search came up big! In Ottawa, Rogers was able to help several citizens and organizations recover money they didn’t even know they had coming to them. They were able to find $5, 052 for the people in unclaimed property . Ottawa organizations had well over $1.6 million in unclaimed property recovered in the search event. During this visit, Treasurer Rogers was able to return unclaimed property to Ottawa University, a retirement facility, a church, the Recreation Center and County Offices.
Rogers says it’s important for him to make time to visit Kansas neighborhoods to help patrons running errands take the time to check for their unclaimed property and money that belongs back in their pockets.
Returning unclaimed property is a free service provided by the State Treasurer’s Office. Rogers reminds us that any website requesting credit card information or offering to find property for a fee, is not the official website of the State Treasurer. Kansans can search for unclaimed property anytime by visiting the web site “kansascash.k-s.gov”.
