Former City Commissioner, Mike Norman, was recognized during the January 25th Garnett City Commission Meeting, for being selected as a Top 100 National Winner of the 2021 Small Town America Civic Volunteer Award. His nomination, by the City of Garnett, was among the nearly 700 nominations from 49 states.

Norman’s accomplishments are far too many to mention here, but here is a partial list of his 43 years of public service. He served as a Commissioner for the City of Garnett for over 24 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for 32 years and EMT for 17 years. He has been involved in Jaycees since 1970. Mike has been a soccer and baseball coach and umpire for Rec Programs. He was an activist for the Prairie Spirit Trail through Garnett. He is an Mason, a Shriner, an original Board Member for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Anderson County as well as a volunteer… and an incredible number of other things.

The City of Garnett says Mike Norman is someone you can always count on to see progress through. His passion for Garnett, living and leading by example and his unwavering volunteerism is inspirational.
