With the finding that the Econo-Lodge has to be rezoned from Commercial to Mixed Use in order to be renovated into a multi-family housing unit, some are wondering exactly what “Mixed Use” means. City Manager, Richard Nienstedt, offered and explanation to KOFO’s Gary Bateman:

An Amendment to the Code is also being put together to reduce the minimum size of the mixed used lot from three acres to less than three acres.

Developer Josh Walker is interested in changing the building over to Multi-family to ease the affordable housing crunch in Ottawa.
