The Kansas House, late last night, passed a plan to gradually reduce the states food sales tax and have it completely eliminated by 2025. Republicans had shot down attempts from Democrats to revive the Governor’s plan to have a full elimination by July. Under the plan, the Bill will go into effect January first and will cut the State Sales Tax on groceries from 6.5% to 4%. The tax will drop to 2% in 2024 and be gone on January first, 2025. Kansas has the second highest states sales tax on groceries in the Nation.

Governor Kelly announced late last night that she would sign the Bill, calling it a win for every single Kansan, providing a bit of financial relief for everyone. She did say she would call on the Legislature to move the implementation date up to July first of this year.
