One problem when rezoning a piece of property is understanding why some plots were zoned a certain way long ago. Ottawa Community Development Director, Michael Hall, says things really changed around 60 years ago:
The issue of Rezoning and the historical facet of zoning, has come up because a developer’s plan to convert the Econo-Lodge into an apartment complex has been delayed due to newly discovered restrictions of Mixed Use Zoning, which requires a three acre minimum lot size. The Econo-Lodge is around two acres. The Ottawa Planning Commission is expected to adopt a text amendment that would allow the project to move forward, during its May 11th meeting.
