The Ottawa Planning Commission members are concerned about any ethical problems in case they talk to someone outside of the Commission about matters before the Commission. To get clarification, they requested that Assistant City Attorney, Darby VanHoutan, give her input. She told Commissioners it’s important to be balanced about the issue:
VanHoutan says in most cases, Planning Commission members do not need to recuse themselves just because they had the outside conversation with someone.
