It’s rare when you get to hear from a survivor of World War II, let-alone a survivor who had to deal with Hitler’s Nazi Germany and Stalin’s Russian Red Army. You have that chance tomorrow nigh in Ottawa.
Just before her 16th birthday, Mildred Schindler Janzen and her family were taken from their home by Russian soldiers. Tomorrow, after 90 plus years, Mildred will recount being taken from her family and in meticulous detail, tell of her journey of survival and her determination to make her way home and find her family, through fear, regret, loneliness, humility. Why now, you may ask?
Sponsored by the Ottawa Library, Mildred will tell her story, answer questions and speak about her experience, at the Ottawa Memorial Auditorium tomorrow night at 6:30. Come hear how one young woman survived Hitler, evaded Stalin and her remarkable escape from Nazi Germany.
