Today is the first day of National Police Week. A week set aside every year to honor the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the Nation. The Ottawa City Commission recently approved a Proclamation in recognition of the event. Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner, talked about something that has really had an impact on him:
In 1962 President Kennedy Proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week.
A candlelight vigil to honor those who have died will be held Friday in Washington D. C. at the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
