If you’re biking out at the Flint Hills Trail in Osawatomie and you need to repair your bike, you’re in luck and you can thank a Boy Scout. A new bike repair stand now graces the Mile Zero Station of the Eastern Terminus of the Flint Hills Trail. Eagle Scout, Parker Chalupnik, from Shawnee, built the stand as part of his Eagle Project. When he was looking for a place to put the station, he consulted Jeff Carrol, owner of Ottawa Bike and Trail, which sits at the intersection of the Flint Hills and Prairie Spirit Trail and he suggested Osawatomie as a site for the stand. Carrol provided a contact name and then provided materials needed for the stand.

Once Parker received permission to put up the Bike Repair Stand, the City of Osawatomie poured the cement pad that anchors it. The Repair Stand is furnished with several services that let a bicyclist change a tire or a tube and tighten bike parts.

The City held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the stand in April. Parker is a member of Boy Scout Troop 93 in Shawnee.
