Governor Laura Kelly signed House Bill 21-06 yesterday, deemed the “Axe the Food Tax” Bill. It will eliminate the state sales tax on groceries by 2025. Kelly says cutting the food tax will provide Kansans with much needed fiscal relief:

Kansans pay more for groceries than almost every other state due to a 6.5% state sales tax. Kelly has called on the Kansas Legislature to fully implement the elimination of the states tax on July first of this year, so the benefits of the state’s strong economic growth can be passed on to the people immediately. The plan calls for the tax to 4% in January, then to 2% in 2024 and to zero in 2025.
