Utility Bill Surcharge rates for both electric and gas were discussed at length at the Garnett City Commission Meeting Tuesday night. For years and years, the City of Garnett has transferred funds from utilities to help keep property taxes down. Garnett’s newest Commissioner, Jason Shehan, says that fact has been a real eye opener for him since he took office. He and City Manager, Travis Wilson discussed the issue:

Facing a big deficit at the end of the year, the Commission voted to raise the gas surcharge from $5.00 to $6.00, in hopes to shave off some of the deficit in the upcoming year.
