A nine year old girl who suffered critical injuries in a crash Saturday, died yesterday morning. The Douglas county Sheriff’s office says the girl, a student at Eudora Elementary, was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by a 54 year old man. As they were approaching the top of the eastbound ramp from K-10, on east 1900 Road, between Lawrence and Eudora, witnesses said a white delivery style van pulled out and struck the motorcycle and then fled from the scene, leaving its front bumper and several other parts behind. The driver of the motorcycle and the nine year old were taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital. The driver suffering serious injuries, also. Douglas County Sheriff Officials say they are looking for a 2015-2018 white Ford Transit Connect XL Model 2013-2019, more likely 2018-2019 van, missing a black front bumper and front splash guard, with front end damage.

Eudora School Superintendent, Stu Moeckel, sent a email to district families yesterday, informing them of the incident and expressing condolences to the family. He says grief counseling services will be available today at the school for any staff or student who needs it.

Eudora Police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver and locating the van involved in the crash. If you know anything about the accident, call them or 911.
