Local Vietnam Veteran, William Elston, gave all he had in his quest to walk from the Vietnam Memorial in Lawrence, to the Ottawa War Memorial, Monday, May 30, 2022; but, in the end, he had to cut his tribute short. Due to high winds, heat and leg cramps, he had to stop his journey at Baldwin Junction. He made it halfway, but gave everything he had. What else could we ask of someone so dedicated to the Service of his Country and dedicated to honoring his fallen comrades.

He had planned to make the 26.2 mile journey, taking one step for every name on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D. C.

I, for one, am so proud of his efforts.

Next year, William, a few of us are coming up with a plan for you to make your journey, with a little help from your friends. Details coming soon.
