Kansas Gubernatorial Candidate and the State’s Attorney General, Derek Schmidt, has named a running mate in his campaign for the Governor’s Seat. Schmidt announced yesterday morning that Katie Sawyer would be his running mate and candidate for Lieutenant Governor. Schmidt officially tapped Sawyer for the Campaign Trail when they filed their Joint Candidacy for Governor and Lieutenant Governor in Topeka.

Sawyer has spent nearly six years in a high-level role as a Director of In-State Operations and Constituent Service for U. S. Senator Roger Marshall. She says she is honored to answer the Call To Service and humbled that Schmidt has the confidence in her to help him get Kansas on track after years of continual disappointment. If elected, the 38 year old Sawyer would be the youngest Active Republican Lieutenant Governor.

Kansas last and only female Lieutenant Governor was Sheila Frahm in 1996
