Ottawa is in a unique position. We are a rural community; but, we are close to a metropolitan area. Law enforcement has a lot on their plate. Sheriff Jeff Richards says while Ottawa can’t provide the number of services as a larger County can, his department is doing something to make things a bit more level. He says they are starting a Crime Scent Unit to investigate serious crimes.
Richards says training deputies in crime scene technology is another way to keep employees in the County.
