A 62 year old Peculiar, Missouri man is dead after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot would to the head after being pulled over for a traffic violation Saturday evening, June 18. Ottawa Police Chief Adam Weingartner says the incident occurred just after 6:00 Saturday night:
Both officers provided immediate medical assistance and requested an ambulance. No officers were injured in the incident and no officers discharged their firearms. Detectives with the Ottawa Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s office are investigating the incident. Weingartner added it is a priority for the department to continue their efforts to respond to people in mental health crisis and hopefully de-escalate the situation before such a tragic outcome.
